During December 16 – 19, professionals and fans alike geared up for the World Snow Polo Championships in Aspen, Colorado. Horses donned cleats while riders piled layer upon layer to compete in the challenging conditions. According to a recent article in the New York Times about the event, this has been a popular tradition for years, “Now in it’s 11th year, this is only tournament of its kind in North America (the sport was born in St. Moritz, Switzerland in 1985).” The event has established a following of experienced polo players and noteworthy fans including an appearance by Zac Ephron.
